The grand palace compound is on display in full view, adding to the beautiful achitectures lining the river. Looking down from any approaching airplane, you can tell bangkok is a well-lit city. But from this perspective, it is like you are looking at "Trantor":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trantor in its prime.
