The implications are multi-fold: * Location based web services can build on top of the platform. * Geo-tagging things locally now makes a whole of sense.

Yahoo! just quietly brought online a nifty tool called "TagMaps.":http://developer.yahoo.com/yrb/tagmaps/ As the name suggest, it is a new way of visualizing tags by overlaying them on maps. You need 3 components for this to work, objects, tags, and geo-location. Their first example is to use Flickr images, which conveniently has all 3 components.
Example below is using the "World Explorer":http://tagmaps.research.yahoo.com/worldexplorer.php mode and entering "bangkok":http://tagmaps.research.yahoo.com/worldexplorer.php?lat=13.7299635562192... for location. (2 other modes are "night explorer":http://tagmaps.research.yahoo.com/nightexplorer.php which filter only pictures taken at night, and "trip explorer":http://tagmaps.research.yahoo.com/tripexplorer.php which take data from "Yahoo! Travel Trip Planner":http://travel.yahoo.com/trip )
TagMaps aggregate objects (in this case, pictures) that has the same tags in the same geographic area, and display the tags on the maps. Tags with more items appear in larger type size, and location of the tag text is the mid point calculated from all objects with that tag) It is very smart.
And it can be embedded! Thumbs Up, Yahoo!

ผมเคยเปรยไว้ตั้งแต่กลางปี 2005 "ว่าอยากให้มี Google Maps สำหรับกรุงเทพ":http://ichris.ws/node/868 เพราะติดใจคนชอบหลงอย่างผม ตอนได้ใช้ที่อเมริกา จะไปที่ไหนขอแค่มีที่อยู่ก็ไปได้ อยากกิน อยากซื้อของ ก็หาง่าย
เมื่อราว 4 เดือนก่อน "ได้ลองใช้ Longdo Map":http://ichris.ws/2006/08/12/2-useful-map-of-bangkok ก็ถูกใจในระดับนึง ข้อมูลเค้าแน่นมาก หาอะไรเจอเกือบหมด (ถึงจะยังบอกเส้นทางขับรถไม่ได้) แถมเป็นภาษาไทยหาง่ายดี แต่ผมไม่ประทับใจเลยในแง่ "UI":http://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8%AA%E0%B9%88%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%... มันยังรู้สึกขาดๆ เกินๆ เช่น
* เวลาซูมเข้าออก ลาก scroller แล้ว ไปมั่ง ไม่ไปมั่ง
* สีไม่ค่อยสวย เหมือนสีกราฟ Excel ที่ยังไม่ได้แต่ง
* ทางด่วน ไม่บอกว่าอันไหนทางขึ้น ทางลง สำคัญสำหรับผม
* เส้นรถไฟฟ้าดูยาก ไม่บอกว่าสถานีอยู่ตรงไหน
* มันรก ตัวอักษรอ่านยาก ทับกัน
เมื่อวานนี้คุณ Monthol มาชวนให้ลองใช้ "Moffle":http://www.moffle.com/ แต่กว่าจะได้เล่นจริงก็เย็นเพราะ internet ล่ม แต่ก็คุ้มกับการรอคอย รูปข้างล่างนี้เปรียบเทียบกับ Longdo Map ให้เห็นข้อเด่นข้อด้อย

สรุปว่าด้านข้อมูล Longdo ชนะ (แต่ถ้า community ที่ช่วยเพิ่มข้อมูลย้ายมาใช้ Moffle ก็อาจสูสีกัน) ส่วน UI ให้ Moffle ชนะน้อค การที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นหลัก ผมยังสองจิตสองใจว่าดีรึเปล่า ถ้าทำอีก mode นึงเป็นภาษาไทยด้วยคงเจ๋งสุด
นอกจากนั้น Moffle ยังมีเอาความสามารถของ mash up หลายตัวมารวมไว้ให้ใช้ด้วย เช่น "Travel Guide":http://www.moffle.com/travelguide.html ที่โชว์ตำแหน่งโรงแรม ร้านอาหาร ที่ช้อปปิ้ง กับ "Upside Down":http://www.moffle.com/southup.html ที่ไม่รู้จะเอาไว้ทำอะไร แต่โชว์สปิริตขี้เล่นเหมาะกับ web 2.0 ดี แต่อันที่มีประโยชน์สุดต้องเป็น "การให้สร้างแผนที่เอง":http://www.moffle.com/createmap.php ซึ่งทำได้ทั้งเพิ่ม pin บอกสถานที่ได้ไม่จำกัด สร้างเส้นทางได้อิสระ สามารถเอาไปทำอะไรได้อีกเยอะ ผมลองเล่นๆ "วาดเส้นทางขับรถไปทำงานทุกเช้าดู":http://www.moffle.com/viewmap.php?id=104&key=56944121 (ถึงกับตกใจ ตั้ง 44.32 กิโล)

สังเกตเห็นตั้งแต่เช้าวันนี้ ว่ามี hit เข้ามาจาก Google หลายอันจากการหาวลี "Google Earth Bangkok" กับ "Google Earth Thailand" มาจนเย็นนี้ก็เป็นร้อยครั้งแ้ล้ว ตอนแรกนึกว่ามีครูโรงเรียนไหนให้การบ้านรึไง ปรากฏว่าลองหาดูนิดนึง ก็เจอ ข่าวนี้ ในเว็บผู้จัดการออนไลน์ พูดถึงในแง่ผลกระทบทางความมั่นคง ลองดูตัวอย่าง รูปข้างล่างนี้ที่ความละเอียดสูงสุดปัจจุบัน มีสถานที่สำคัญอยู่เป็นโหล ก็ไม่เห็นอันตรายอะไร

First saw it on "Hui's blog":http://vuthi.blogspot.com/2005/08/google-earth.html that Google Earth has increased the map resolution around Bangkok area. "This page":http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=71406 lists the 100+ cities that also got the upgrade back in August 15. (So long ago, in internet time) Apparently the most detailed area of Bangkok are resolved to 0.7 metre per pixel.
