Google Map, Thailand

Yes, I have "predicted":http://ichris.ws/2007/03/09/theyre-coming this will happen soon. Yes, I am still dumbstruck. "The whole of Thailand":http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Kingdom+of+Thailand&layer=&ie=UT... is now covered by Google Map. The implications are multi-fold: * Location based web services can build on top of the platform. * Geo-tagging things locally now makes a whole of sense.

Google Calendar/Outlook 2003/ScheduleWorld

Since Google Calendar's debut in April, the burning issue for many has always been Outlook synchronization. I keep 2 separate calendar on GCal, personal and work. And I mainly want a 1-way update, having the events in my office Outlook account appearing in the 'work' calendar on GCal.

Most of the early success story has been with a free software called RemoteCalendar, which is supposed to do 2-way sync. The RC never worked for me, mainly because it cannot operate behind the corporate firewall. There are now a few commercial solutions on the market, and I was tempted to spend $29 if it works well.

But today, I came across "this method":http://engtech.wordpress.com/2006/08/11/the-holy-grail-of-synchronizatio... which use "ScheduleWorld":http://www.scheduleworld.com as intermedium. SW sync with Outlook with a "desktop application,":http://www.scheduleworld.com/tg/syncmlInfo.jsp and sync with GCal webservice style. The manual sync works as advertised, and in a day I should know how the scheduled sync performs.

This has another advantage over RM in that repeated events are supported.

CL2: Sneak Peek at Google Calendar

"TechCrunch":http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/03/08/exclusive-screenshots-google-calendar/ has many screenshots of an early beta version of Google Calendar, or CL2. As with many commenters there, the first thing I thought of is "30 Boxes,":http://30boxes.com which I am using daily.

Measure Map bought by Google

The good news broke this morning, via an e-mail from Jeff Veen and then "an announcement":http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/here-comes-measure-map.html on the official Google blog. "Measure Map":http://measuremap.com is now part of the G empire.

Google Base เจาะตลาดเดียวกับ Craigslist?

Bloglines feeling the heat

News sources usually refer to Newsgator and desktop feed reader as ones most threaten with the arrival of "Google Reader.":http://www.google.com/reader/lens/ For me, "Bloglines":http://www.bloglines.com has been the only practical choice. (And now Reader is too)

Not long ago, Bloglines has just introduced keyboard shortcuts, which is one feature I like about Reader. Imitation is the best form of flattery? 8)

The Plex

Given the last 2 posts are about Google, I should try some other topics. But this warrants an exception. :D

Google Reader

Another _Beta_ from Google, after the Map just lost its beta status. "Google Reader":http://www.google.com/reader is quite different from any online feed reader I have came across. It's full of AJAX tricks and feel very responsive, and let you tag and _star_ feeds like in Gmail.

I'm still coming to term with how it display feeds. It successfully imported my Bloglines OPML with 126 feeds in it, and convert folder name into tag. (nice!) But to have to read each post one by one instead of scrolling down is a no no for me.
