I was trying to buy tickets on-line for my Aunt today, because Major Cineplex won’t take phone reservation for Batman -Returns- Begins. This is their practice for all currently-hot movies, take the certain money rather than wait for you to show up. So I though, hey, let’s just _buy_ the ticket on the internet. Surely, they’d take that.

And they did. You need only provide them with your full name, address, phone number, gender, and date of birth!

I mean, what the fuck for?

Do you have different seats engineered specifically for each gender? I think not. The above are only the ‘required’ fields, you can also fill in your marital status, occupation, education, and current salary, if you’re so inclined.

This is exactly like when I tried to buy concert ticket at ThaiTicketMaster, and was asked for my address and national ID number. (kind of like the SSN for Thailand)

All these without even a tick box so you can decide whether to recieve tons of junk mails and phone marketing. (Read: You’ll get them. Starting next month.)

The only possible reason they could still afford to offer these crappy service is that there is no competitional pressure. SF Cinema asks for similar info, for example. And losing internet customer won’t really hurt them, as people will buy the ticket at ticketing offices anyway.

วันนี้คุณอาอยากไปดู Batman -Returns- Begins แต่โทรศัพท์ไปจองแล้วปรากฏว่าโรงหนังไม่รับจอง (Major รัชโยธิน) ซึ่งเกิดขึ้นประจำสำหรับหนังเรื่องที่คนกำลังดูเยอะๆ โรงหนังขอเอาเงินแน่นอนดีกว่ารอคนที่ไม่รู้ว่าจะมารึเปล่า เราก็เลยคิดว่า ถ้าไม่ใช่จอง แต่ซื้อตั๋วเลยทาง internet น่าจะได้ ก็ลองเข้าไปที่ website ของ Major Cineplex ปรากฏว่าซื้อตั๋วได้จริง แต่ต้องลงทะเบียน และใส่ข้อมูลส่วนตัวมากมาย ชื่อ ที่อยู่ เบอร์โทรศัพท์ เพศ วันเกิด

จะซื้อตั๋วหนัง ถามว่าเพศอะไร? จะรู้ไปทำไม? ทั้งหมดที่พูดไปข้างบนนี่ เป็นช่องที่บังคับกรอกเท่านั้นนะ ที่ไม่บังคับนี่มีให้กรอกสถานะ อาชีพ การศึกษาเงินเดือน

อารมณ์เสียมาก เหมือนกับครั้งที่อยากซื้อตั๋วคอนเสิร์ตที่ ThaiTicketMaster แล้วเจอให้กรอกหมายเลขบัตรประชาชน

ถ้ามีคนอยากสมัครสมาชิก อยากให้ข้อมูลพวกนี้ และหวังว่าจะทำให้ได้บริการที่ดีขึ้น ก็แล้วแต่ เราคงไปบังคับใจกันไม่ได้ แต่การบังคับเอาข้อมูลส่วนตัวแบบนี้ และไม่มีแม้กระทั่งช่องให้เลือก ว่าต้องการเมลขยะหรือโทรศัพท์ขายของจากผู้ให้บริการรึเปล่า (แปลว่าได้แน่นอน) มันทุเรศมากๆ

สำหรับสองตัวอย่างข้างบนนี้ ที่ยังทำอยู่ได้ก็คงเพราะทั้งสองที่ไม่ได้พึ่งธุรกิจทาง internet เป็นหลัก ถึงคนไม่ชอบ ไม่ใช้ ก็ยังไปซื้อที่โรงหนังหรือออฟฟิศขายตั๋วอยู่ดี และก็ไม่มีคู่แข่งที่ให้บริการสะดวกกว่านี้ด้วย (ลองดู SF Cinema ก็ขอข้อมูลคล้ายๆ กัน)
